The purpose of a full psychometric test is to determine
a child’s level of cognitive functioning and to determine the
possible presence of learning difficulties or exceptional abilities.
Occasionally, a psychometric test will include only a test of cognitive
functioning. Such tests are occasionally requested for application
to specific schools. More often, a full psychometric test will include
a combination of tests of cognitive functioning, attainment and diagnostic
assessments by different professionals. This type of combined assessment
is essential to ascertain the presence of learning difficulties such
as dyslexia, ADHD, auditory processing disorders and autism.
